Main Street

Fort Wayne, Indiana

Across from the Fort Wayne, Jonathan Bower Memorial area, a road block was set up near American Family Insurance on Main Street. The only through streets are Harrison and the other side of Van Buren. It has been there for 4 weeks but is set to be taken down within the next few days. I will check back on this registry to see if any other developments have occurred.

Ripley Street Rt 51

Lake County, Indiana

I have been stopped here twice now on my way to see someone. They ask all vehicles to go through a coned area through the subway parking lot. They have asked me for my license, insurance, and registration. They ask where you are coming from and where you are going and WHY. RIDICULOUS! none of their business where and why. Ask if you have had anything to drink the entire day. LONG wait to get out of roadblock. You can see it ahead of you when traveling southbound on Ripley past the Stack's plaza.

South Washington St.

Kokomo, Indiana

They seemed to be checking for seat belts.

Various

Fort Wayne, Indiana

Passed unstopped once through this particular roadblock (St. Joe Road near St. Joe Center Road) and then avoided it on return by turning off early. Stated purpose, according to Ft. Wayne Police and Allen County Sherriff's departments in my phone followup, is for seatbelt usage. From observation, cars are pulled off singly to parking lot or similar detention area; when one leaves, whoever is next goes in while traffic otherwise proceeds.

68th Place (Right in front of the high school)

Merrillville, Indiana

They've been setting up these roadblocks all over Merrillvile for the last few weeks.

Today I was driving out of the high school and was stopped at the roadblock. I had my seatbelt on as did my passanger. I choose to wear my seatbelt under my left arm (instead of across the shoulder) because I feel like it restricts my movement. Personally I feel the right to wear the seatbelt is the choice of the individual because it can help as much as it can harm, but I wear it anyway because stupid as it is, it's the law.

I was still cited as "No seatbelt (improper usage)" and will be required to pay a $25 fine in the next month. We've had more that 10 cars seriously damaged in the high school parking lot in a month and a half timespan. Why don't the police spend a little more time finding the people behind the break-ins and a little less time harassing law-abiding citizens?

This Indiana roadblock was added to the Roadblock Registry in May 2002.

On West Cross St and Alexandria Pike

Anderson, Indiana

i have been stopped at this intersection twice simply for a seatbelt roadblock as have several others! i think it is an outrage..while i know that seatbelts are a must i have had two friends almost killed because they were wearing a seatbelt, so it is a personal issue why i choose to not wear one. however i have been cited twice. i believe roadblocks should be declared as unconstitutional!!!

This Indiana roadblock was added to the Roadblock Registry in September 2001.
