Route 133, West Rutland, right before the bridge

Rutland, Vermont

About 12 cruisers and many State Troopers set up a road block with Stop signs on both sides of the road on Route 133. It happened on New Year's Eve. Just before the bridge and before you take the right turn to go to the Price Chopper. They were checking to see if we had on our seat belts and to see if anyone had been drinking. The time was about 8:30 pm.

This Vermont roadblock was added to the Roadblock Registry in January 2012.

US Route 7 (south and north)

St. Albans, Vermont

This "sobriety" checkpoint is conducted in St. Albans on Route 7 (north and south) on North Main st., right in front of the Hungerford Building and Go-Go Gas.

There are at least 15 cops there and they have usually have a viscious German shepard dog barking at you while you are stopped and questioned. When you are stopped, you are asked to show your "papers" (DL, insurance, registration) and while you are getting those for the cop, there are 2-3 other cops walking around your vehicle and looking in.

These unprofessional cops are NOT nice and they are very cocky, rude and arrogant. It looked like a scene 1939 Nazi Germany. Americans better wake up soon and see what their country is becoming because it's going to get worse. Know your Constitutional Rights!

These checkpoints are NOT just for sobriety! They are "show your papers" checkpoints! Are these the kinds of "freedoms" are U.S. troops are fighting and dying for overseas? Yeah, right..ok. It makes me laugh when Americans say their troops are overseas fighting for our "freedoms" Americans better wake up soon. Soon, the entire 4th Amendment will be gone and they will be "checking" our homes.

S. Main St. (between Freeborn St. & Cadillac Motel)

St. Albans, Vermont

This so called "sobriety checkpoint" has been held many times on S. Main St. between the Cadillac Motel and Freeborn St. It's usually held between the hours of 7pm and 10pm and the VT State Police out of the St. Albans barracks conduct it.

I have gone thru these checkpoints many times and the VT State Police are very rude, cocky, arrogant and very nosey. They are Nazi Gestapo like and they shine their flashlights all thru your vehicle and 2-3 of them walk around your vehicle. They usually ask where you have been and where you are going...and, I usually tell them it's really none of their business.

I do answer their usual questions about sobriety, etc. It is none of their business about peoples personal life and you DO NOT have to answer their questions about where you have been, etc. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS! LEARN YOUR RIGHTS! I have a friend that lives in a home right in front of where they conduct this checkpoint and we sat out on the porch smoking a cig. one night during one of these checkpoints and could hear everything to VT state police were chatting about.

It was all male troopers, and when they let a car pass, they would comment on a womans weight and appearance, etc and laugh about it, etc. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! Americans need to wake up soon and learn and know their rights. God Bless the USA, because we need the blessing! AMERICANS WAKE UP!!!!

Just south of White River Jct. on I-91 south

Hartland, Vermont

This checkpoint is operated by the U.S Dept. of Homeland Security/U.S. Customs. It is a federal checkpoint 90 miles south of the Canadian border just outside of White River Jct., VT on I-91 south. All vehicles are stopped and you are questioned about your citizenship, etc.

They will walk around your car and then return to your car window and ask you some more questions. Even Greyhound buses are told to pull into the rest area/weigh station 50 feet away and the buses and the passengers inside are inspected and questioned. In the rest area, there are big campers set up and it looks very police state.

There is a viscious dog tied up outside of the camper. If you pull into the rest area, you can see the federal agents with handcuffed people...mostly people of color. It looks like discrimination and it's very sad.

It's sad to see internal checkpoints in America, especially federal agents operating them. I am so glad that I don't have any children. I wouldn't want to raise them in America because America is a fast growing police state and it looks like Americans are losing their constitutional rights and freedoms.

It's very shocking and sad to see these Orwellian things going on in America. It makes me wonder what they are going to do next.

Intersection of VT Route 78 and Gore Rd

Highgate Center, Vermont

Usually set up on holidays, but there have been many times where it hasn't been a holiday. Usually VT State Police out of the St. Albans barracks. They ask for your I.D., insurance, etc. They are not very nice and they are sarcastic and rude. It's usually young troopers with no experience and their supervisor isn't around. Most people are harrassed and intimidated by these nazi's. More people need to know their constituttional rights in order to get these bad cops off the force and to bring charges against them.

Route 108 (Mountain Road) at Catholic Church

Stowe, Vermont

Frequently held sobriety roadblock (per local barkeep). On 12/29/07 they were stopping every car, and asking "Have you had anything to drink tonight?". The answer "Not tonight" sufficed, and they let us proceed. They had a big set up in the Catholic Church parking lot where presumably they were doing more involved questioning.

US Route 2

Lunenburg, Vermont

I witnessed this one around 6:30pm. I did come across two motorists who were stopped about a half a mile before the checkpoint, each by a different local cruiser...Orwellian to say the least.

This Vermont roadblock was added to the Roadblock Registry in November 2007.

Route 2-A

Williston, Vermont

Consistently setup for Memorial Day/July 4th or similar holidays generally associated with drinking and driving. The checkpoint is in front of (and makes use of) the state police barracks near the highway. Many cars are just waved through to prevent traffic backup throughout the county (high volume route), leaving one to wonder how potential 'offenders' are profiled. This block is highly visible due to the amount of traffic buildup if one realizes what is happening before it's too late.

Route 7 in front of the 99 restaurant

Rutland, Vermont

This so called "sobriety" checkpoint is usually conducted here twice a month or more. It's usually set up on Route 7 south in front of the 99 restaurant and the glass company. It's so sad to see this happening in America. I'm terrified for my children have to grow up in this emerging police state.

Route 9 at South St. next to Fire Station

Brattleboro, Vermont

Usually involves VT state police. They always set it up around New Years Eve and at other random times on the weekends if they do it at all. Its more infrequently as of late. Its mostly a sobriety checkpoint, but do a make point to distract you and ask questions while they run their flashlight through your car. It basically an excuse to stop you, and bust you for violating some random law you don't know about.

This Vermont roadblock was added to the Roadblock Registry in September 2003.
