Set up on the King William/King and Queen County line on the King and Queen side of the bridge. There is no way to tell that a roadblock is there from the King William side (at west point). Lots of people come from Williamsburg heading back to Gloucester or vice versa after drinking because of the lack of police in that area. They catch LOTS of people.

Off I-95 going east on Route 30 before State Fair

I was 22 years old and had forgotten to register my car by June 30th, was stopped by a roadblock on my way home from work on July 3rd after 12 a.m. (I work at a restaurant). They ran my license and I found out that Virginia's DMV had suspended my license for too many points; DMV failed to notify me in any form (mail or email or phone).
The officer asked me if he could search my car. I said "yes" as I did not know of anything illegal in my car and I was actually scared by this officer. Since the car was not legally registered and my license was suspended unknowingly by DMV, they made me pay for their own towing service ($250) to take my car to their impound lot over 30 miles away on the southside of Richmond, VA.
I asked if I could call AAA and have it towed to my home, which was only 6 miles away. Not allowed. I went to court after hiring an attorney...(expensive), charges were dismissed and reduced to did not have license on me. The strange thing was that the Prosecutor had to say I was a single motorist stopped by the police for suspicion while traveling on I-95. They cannot say they used a roadblock in the court of law. Doesn't that seem strange?????

Fairfax County PD setup here about 2 - 3 times a year. They'll have a handful of officers on-site with varying vehicles (motorcycle, patrol car, van). They typically only stop vehicles with obvious violations. Last known date was June 8, 2010.

Rt 9 at Sweet Springs Country Store
Purcellville, Virginia
I checked registration but all they asked for was to see my license. There were 4 deputies handling the road (2 for each direction) another handful in the parking lot where several vehicles had been pulled over in gas station parking lot. Could find no sign of prior announcement. Been driving the road for years during rush hour and this was the first road block I've seen. Google earth - 39deg 15' 22.09"N 77deg 45' 38.95"W has a good image of site. It's perfect based on what this site describes.

Rt 30 (Rochambeau Drive) near I-64 Croker Rd Exit
James City County, Virginia
Location - At the wide spot on Rochambeau (Route 30) between Faith Baptist Church and Croaker Road. Common location. Stopped four times there now, 3 times were rush hour times (AM and PM). Asked for license and registration and were looking at license plates and for lights/signals. All times had a line of vehicles pulled off and to the side. Revenue suckers!!!

This is the second Road Block in the area in the past 2 days. They stop everyone going both directions and ask to see license. Nothing else. They then proceed to tell you to "move on". The officer today told my wife to "Get used to this as it's going to be happening a lot more".

S Military Hwy & George Washington Hwy
Chesapeake City, Virginia
Saw this checkpoint on 12/11/09 at about 9pm. Was at S.MIlitary Hwy. Right before Canal Drive/George washington hwy. They stopped everyone. and had 'chaser' cars set up. I was driving on the opposite side of the median so i do no know what they checked for. Chesapeake City Police.

Good experience, I did not have my actual registration in the vehicle (it was on my fridge), but they did not ticket me for failure to have proof of registration. However, my friend had a bad experience and was ticketed due to not having a valid inspection sticker.
