on my ID but a friend 3 cars back had a valid NY ID was asked to
pull over and both were handcuffed and their car searched without
any stated probable cause or permission. They did not answer to
any ?'s and were not given a field sobriety or breath test. Drugs
mysteriously found on the floorboard. They stated that others were
in jail for turning before the stop. This seems to be a case of
profiling. |

| Additional
information about this roadblock or notes on roadblock encounter: |
| while
driving home from a late movie, the roadblock in question was exactly
one street up from the road i live off of, and once i turned on
the street i had a helicoptor follow me 2 blocks to my house, once
i had parked and was walking towards my driveway, two police cars
quickly pulled up and told my roommate and myself to put our hands
in the air. They then made us put our hands on the hood of their
car, while they asked us if we were drinking, had drugs, or weapons
on us. I turned around to tell the officer we lived here, the officer
then shoved me and told me to keep my hands on the car. The insurance
sticker for 07 had fallen off of my vehicle, when i told the officers
that they acted as if i couldn't be telling the truth, and one of
the officers snidely informed me that it would be a citation (or
an excuse to harass us further). Once running the license plate
information, the officer then realized i was actually telling the
truth about the insurance and had no reason to keep us after being
embarassed about the reality of the situation. Before letting us
go, one of the officers asked us if we had anything we wanted to
tell them now, so they might go easy on us later. Two white boys
driving into a black neighborhood at late at night, seems like profiling
to me. |

information about this roadblock or notes on roadblock encounter: |
| This
is a favorite of Atlanta Police, this should have already been reported.
This stop is designed to harass the Buckhead crowd when returning
to the inner-town regions (Midtown/Downtown). It would be a better
idea to stick to Peachtree St or the Atlanta transit system (MARTA)
on weekends if you've been drinking. Fulton County/Atlanta Police
will hit you hard if you get caught, no matter how arbitrary the
BAL. I've known friends who were sacked for 0.05s |

are here quite a bit but it is a "hit and run" approach where they
are only there for a short while. To be honest with you APD is pretty
laid back on DUI. because they get so many 911 calls they do not
want to do the paper work They are under a federal court order NOT
to take in misdemeanors because the jail is way overcrowded and
in complete shambles |

| Additional
information about this roadblock or notes on roadblock encounter: |
| I have
seen a roadblock at this location twice. Once in july of 2006 and
once again in february of 2007. The angle of the curve leading to
that intersection makes it difficult to see the police cars stopped
there. A traffic signal has been added at that intersection since
the first roadblock and the area has a shopping center under development
at the corner. I was asked for license and insurance. I was asked
if i had been drinking. They took my word for it and let me go. |

| Additional
information about this roadblock or notes on roadblock encounter: |
| The
Georgia State Patrol has begun having almost daily checkpoints on
Old Smithville Road, Leslie Highway, or Lee Street. Every road between
Americus and Leesburg is being scrutinized for license, insurance,
and tag. You can almost guarantee that one of these roads is being
roadblocked. The trooper conducting these lives on Lee Street, and
has been quoted as saying "My back yard is my best hunting ground". |
