This is a late night check point.
If you are coming south from zelienople, turn left on old rt 19
right out of zelie. Go past armstrong cable and when on the beginning
of the hill going down, you can see the lights and flares. Continue
to rt 19 near the bowling alley, and go right across rt 19 up
goodeknust rd. Continue south, any left will bring you out to
rt 19 again or continue thru the cranberry golf course to glen
eden rd. if you are traveling out of zelie on rt 68 west, this
is bad late night. always turn left up munz rd at the zelie lanes.
At the cross rd at the top of the hill, you have a choice of straight
thru, down willoughby to glen eden and rt 989, or left on zeigler
rd. to glen eden. It is also very bad to travel on rt 288 past
hereford manor lake late at night. You will definatley be stopped.
Best to go up fanker rd to hereford manor, then turn right and
a quick left at the old furnace sign. Continue along thru fombel
up fombel road which will bring you out again on rt 288 near lilyville.
Never blink your lights at a vehicle with his high beams on. this
is a police ploy to pull you over. If they flash their lights
at you, never respond back.

There were five police cars at the entrance to
the shopping center where a popular local pub is (Starters). It
is the only entrance/exit to the shopping center. If I were the
owner of Starters, I'd feel harrassed - it was impossible to leave
without being stopped. They might as well have had the cops standing
at the door of the pub checking everyone as they left!

Stopped all motorcycles, I asked
them to explain the reason I was stopped. Officer said, "License,
Registration and Insurance papers please." I asked again for the
reason I was stopped and got the same answer, no answer. The officer
took my papers and I had to wait while he ran them through the
computer. I was detained about 25 minutes along with about 30
to 40 other motorcycles. All motorcycles were being checked in
both directions.

At the roadblock, police insist
that the driver open the car window and accept a flyer about seatbelt
use. The officers say that every tenth car is then sent over to
a side road for a driver's, registration and insurance card check;
actually this count is not uniform and it is up to the roadblock
officer which vehicles get sent over for further review. Don't
refuse the flyer (even though you might have received that same
flyer on all the other days the same roadblock is set up), or
you will definitely be sent for the extra review.

These roadblocks are financed
by a grant from the state. They are multi-jurisdictional with
six communities contributing officers for the road blocks. Protests
have been lodged to the Township Supervisors that these so called
"safety checks" have nothing to do with safety. They are for conditioning.
Getting people use to being stopped by uniformed officers asking
for "papers please". These protests have fallen on deaf ears.
We are now actively running for office to remove these supervisors.

in Wyndmoor. If you are driving through on Willow Grove Ave. between
Cheltenham and Stenton, then your best bet is to make a left at
Cheltenham, right onto Mermaid lane(about 500 feet down), and take
that to the light - Stenton Ave. Make a right, and the next light
is Willow Grove, past the roadblock. |
