I was 22 years old and had forgotten to register my car by June 30th, was stopped by a roadblock on my way home from work on July 3rd after 12 a.m. (I work at a restaurant). They ran my license and I found out that Virginia's DMV had suspended my license for too many points; DMV failed to notify me in any form (mail or email or phone). The officer asked me if he could search my car. I said "yes" as I did not know of anything illegal in my car and I was actually scared by this officer. Since the car was not legally registered and my license was suspended unknowingly by DMV, they made me pay for their own towing service ($250) to take my car to their impound lot over 30 miles away on the southside of Richmond, VA. I asked if I could call AAA and have it towed to my home, which was only 6 miles away. Not allowed. I went to court after hiring an attorney...(expensive), charges were dismissed and reduced to did not have license on me. The strange thing was that the Prosecutor had to say I was a single motorist stopped by the police for suspicion while traveling on I-95. They cannot say they used a roadblock in the court of law. Doesn't that seem strange?????

Tuesday, police revised their arrest figure from 194 to 250, said the Associated Press.

"The cost of paying police officers to work the special shifts - providing traffic management as well as overall security - was borne by Phish and its promoters, said Hampton City Manager Jesse Wallace," reported the Daily Press.

It is unclear exactly how much was paid to police an estimated 75,000 fans.

"The Hampton Police Division had 113 officers that worked each of the three nights as well as 85 officers from the nine other agencies each of the three nights," Hampton police public information officer Corporal Allison Quiñones told RAW STORY. "That money was paid out by the band and the information would have to come from them or their promoter In a release (PDF link), Hampton police thank numerous agencies for their participation in the operation, including: "Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Virginia State Police, Newport News Police Department, Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), Poquoson Police Department, Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) and the Hampton Sheriff's Office." Hampton police made "81 Felony arrests and 113 Misdemeanor arrests for a total of 194," stated an advisory. "There were 119 Felony charges and 126 Misdemeanor charges for a total of 245. A total of 46 criminal summonses were issued. A total street value of narcotics seized was $1,213,882.80."

As a side note, there are ALWAYS cops sitting in that same place at all hours of the day monitoring speed; I'm sure anybody traveling that road frequently has seen them.

This one was designed to get everyone coming from all the bars downtown. They started at 12:00 around the holidays; don't remember if it was weeknight or weekend. It's difficult to set up roadblocks downtown with so many available turns and such, but this was done so anyone hitting it would be coming from one way streets. Cop was a dick; asked me if I was sure I had not been drinking after I just said I was coming from my parent's house. Failed to notice (or didn't care) that the registration I handed over was expired.
